However, I think the Greybeards and the nordic legends have a much better definition of dragonborn: "those born with the soul of a dragon and the body of a mortal". They consider those who are dragonborn as the "ultimate slayers of dragons". Then, there's their view of the Dragonborn. As said in the previous comment, their hatred for dragons is even greater than that of the Thalmor for men. The Blades literally want to exterminate dragonkind. Men and mer want to get rid of dragons so that they can live their lifes normally. However, sure, the Blades have a point in hating the dragons for it, like all other mortals. Let's just say they are on the top of the "food chain" of Nirn(except it is actually not based on food). They have a natural instinct to overpower lesser races. I also dislike the Blades a lot, but I just can't say its their fault that dragons hate men.ĭragons were made to dominate, to be superior. Very messed up, but that specific point is strictly my point of view now. And the Blades are using this child of Akatosh, a human who is part dragon, to kill his own kin and to kill his father's children. They are in some small way, a direct child of Akatosh just as dragons are- a dragon trapped in a human body. Thinking about it harder, the Dragonborn is part dragon themselves, a dragon on the inside due to their dragon soul. The Blades just piss me off further from a lore-ish point of view as well because they go out of their way to brainwash the Dragonborn to be the "ultimate dragonslayer". And people complain that the Nords are racist- the Blades are comparable to Nazis. Not even Hircine and his hunters/worshippers are as cruel as the Blades when you think about it- they don't target specific races or animal breeds on hateful premises. It would be like Jews today declaring a faction to kill all Germans for what Hitler did their ancestors in the past- yet not all Germans were Nazis. And despite some dragons doing something wrong, not all should have to die for this. When it comes down to the fact, the Blades are entirely founded on genocide. So of course they're going to worship and work hard as hell for this Dragonborn person- this Dragonborn is their group's ultimate weapon. Yes that's their other purpose, but why? Because according to them, the Dragonborn is the ultimate dragon killer. And don't even bring up the "but they're purpose is to serve the Dragonborn!". The difference that the Blades set for me is that they've literally founded their entire group's existence on the genocide of a single race. There is good and bad on both sides of it, we can't deny that. The same goes for humans- yes, there were other humans apart from the Dragonguard/Blades who hunted dragons too, just as there were humans intend on staying out of dragons' business. Different things but yeah.) As others have pointed out, there are plenty of dragons who did wrong against humans (Alduin in this) but there are also plenty of dragons who were good or just stayed out of other's business. (Likewise, for the sake of accuracy, I might point out that Alduin wasn't committing genocide- he was enslaving the human race. So no, the Dragonguards were indeed the first to make a genocidal move.
Someone earlier spoke of the Dragonguard hunting dragons while Alduin was already terrorizing people in Skyrim- what they forgot to mention was that Alduin and his dragons came from Akavir, and it was referenced somewhere they most likely came from there fleeing from said dragon hunters.
That, and the debate about dragon vs wyvern aside, I'm very much a big hater of the Blades like many people in this thread. Ironic considering they helped someone who worships a Dragon-Man deity.
I still like Blades because they helped Martin and Hero of Kvach end the Oblivion Crisis
